This van was built for salt, sand, and surf. Outfitted with a surfboard rack, solar power, and a Savage interior, this 2016 Chevy Express build is the ultimate Florida beach cruiser. But don’t box it in — with an Advanced 4x4 conversion, Bilstein shocks, and Method wheels, it carries 4x4 spirit that’s just as at home in the mountains and backroads as it is on the coast.
Off-Road Upgrades on the 2016 Chevy Express Build
At its core, this 2016 Chevy Express build runs an Advanced 4x4 conversion backed by Bilstein shocks and Method wheels for smooth control on- or off-road. Luverne aluminum running boards make climbing in easy, while WeldTec front and rear bumpers with a Backwoods storage cabinet bring rugged protection and secure storage.
Roof & Exterior Gear
Overhead, a Tufport roof extension by Wasatch Overland opens up space and headroom. We added a custom Orion Van Gear roof rack with surfboard hooks and a Black Oak light bar for night runs. Power comes from a Goal Zero system with 300W solar, keeping the fridge and lights running long after the sun sets.
Savage Interior Systems
Inside, Savage brought the balance of beach cruiser comfort and adventure function:
Savage wall + floor packages for durability and finish
Savage bed/storage system with 10″ of lift to stash boards, bikes, and bins underneath
Full galley with fridge, sink, 2-burner cooktop, and live edge countertop
Velit heater to warm things up when the weather flips
Stage 1 audio package for road-trip soundtracks
Passenger swivel seat from Iron Cloud Metal Works for flexible seating
Two Lagun workstation tables for mobile office or meal setups
Safety, Tech & Exterior Finish
To keep it safe, we built in the Brandmotion MotionRing system with digital rearview feed, plus a Viper alarm system with a 1-mile range. Outside, the van was finished with custom Savage graphics over a pro paint job, then sealed with a seven-year ceramic coat for protection against sun, salt, and sand.
Built for Beach Days and Backroads
This 2016 Chevy Express build proves you don’t have to choose between lifestyle and capability. With surf racks on the roof, solar in the system, and 4x4 spirit under the skin, it’s Savage-made for Florida coasts, mountain trails, and everywhere in between.
