This 2001 Ford Econoline build proves you don’t need a long wheelbase to go full Savage. With a 5.4L Triton motor, this van had the bones — we gave it everything else: 4x4 capability, a Tufport roof, Savage interior systems, and a galley built to last.
Off-Road Upgrades on the 2001 Ford Econoline Build
The foundation was an AJ’s Off-Road 4x4 conversion, giving this van true all-terrain capability. Method wheels wrapped in 35-inch tires delivered the clearance and grip. A T-Rex grille and upgraded headlights sharpened the look and boosted visibility.
Roof & Exterior Gear
H3: Roof Extension on the 2001 Ford Econoline Build
We raised the roofline with a Tufport roof extension by Wasatch Overland, making the interior more livable. A MaxxFan 7500 keeps air moving — whether on a hot day at the beach or cooking inside after dark.
Savage Interior Comfort & Storage
Inside, we packed utility into a compact footprint:
Four-season insulation for year-round comfort
Renogy off-grid electrical system with battery and charge monitor
Savage Floor Package for durability
Custom wall and door panels for insulation + finish
For storage, we built a diamond plate-trimmed under-bed system with L-track tie downs. The bed platform sits above, offering both comfort and smart gear storage.
Galley & Interior Finishes
The galley features:
Fresh and grey water storage
Beetle kill pine cabinetry with leather pulls
Butcher block countertop with beetle kill trim
Overhead beetle kill pine cabinet
Compact but capable — warm finishes with rugged durability.
Road Comfort & Audio
Both driver and passenger got IronCloud swivel seats, turning the cab into part of the living space. A Stage 3 audio package makes sure the soundtrack matches the build.
Built for All Seasons, All Terrains
This 2001 Ford Econoline build proves compact doesn’t mean compromise. With 4x4, a roof extension, off-grid power, and Savage interior systems, it’s ready for trails, coastlines, and everywhere in between.
